Prosecutors are seeking nine years in prison for footballer Álvaro Aguado, a former Espanyol player, over an alleged sexual assault on a club employee at a Barcelona nightclub in June 2024.
According to EFE, citing the indictment, the pair had been dancing in a private area during Espanyol’s promotion celebrations. He then took her by the hand while she was temporarily dizzy from alcohol, though not fully unconscious, and led her towards the car park stairs before staff blocked access.
He allegedly took her to the men’s bathroom at Opium Barcelona in the early hours of 24 June, where oral and vaginal penetration occurred without a condom. The woman is said to have told him to stop and that she did not want sex.
The prosecutor’s account adds that he eventually stopped, got dressed and said they did not know each other. Aguado, 28, is currently on provisional release in connection with the case.
Prosecutors are also seeking 10 years of supervised release once any prison term is served, plus an eight-year ban on approaching within 1,000 metres or contacting the woman. Civil damages of 55,000 euros for moral harm and 10,000 for psychological effects are requested.
