Prosecutors will drop their case against Real Madrid player Raúl Asencio at trial if he apologises to the victims, a move that would spare him a potential two and a half years in prison. He will still have to appear in court.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the deal was struck at a preliminary hearing after the complainants withdrew their private actions against Asencio, having initially alleged child pornography and disclosure of secrets. They said his behaviour differed from other defendants involved in an incident at a Gran Canaria beach club.
Proceedings continue against three former Real Madrid youth players, who are alleged to have entered a private cabin with a minor and an 18-year-old, where consensual sex occurred. Asencio stayed by the pool with another woman.
The scene was reportedly filmed without the women’s consent and the footage was later shared via messaging apps. The complainants believed it had been deleted in front of them.
The families lifted their accusation only against Asencio after a confidential compensation payment. A civil claim had sought up to 58,000 euros for injuries, lasting effects and moral harm.
Asencio has apologised in a letter to the court and pledged to repair the harm. Prosecutors had previously sought two privacy convictions, arguing his request to view the images to show someone else carried criminal liability despite later deletion.
The minor has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder with anxiety and depressive symptoms that affect daily functioning, and the 18-year-old also presents similar conditions.
