Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as FC Barcelona’s main rivals in the race to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.
The 26-year-old Argentine international is the priority target to strengthen Barça’s attack ahead of next season, especially with Robert Lewandowski’s contract set to expire on 30 June and his future currently appearing more likely to lie away from the Spotify Camp Nou.
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, PSG are prepared to offer more than the €100 million Barcelona would be willing to pay for Alvarez.
On top of that, Atletico Madrid already accept that keeping him will be extremely difficult and would prefer not to strengthen a direct La Liga rival such as Barcelona.
The Rojiblancos would therefore rather sell him to PSG, who are also prepared to offer a higher transfer fee.

Given the situation, Barcelona are aware that competing financially for the Atletico Madrid and Argentine striker will be very complicated and may now be forced to look for alternative options in the transfer market.
Only Alvarez himself could change the course of events if he decides to pressure Los Colchoneros in order to secure a move to Barcelona.
However, that seems unlikely considering that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner enjoys a good relationship with Diego Simeone.
So, unless something drastic happens, the chances that the Catalans sign Alvarez in the summer are shrinking quite rapidly.
The Barça sporting department, led by director Deco, are already looking at alternatives, with Joao Pedro of Chelsea being one of the options being studied.
