According to Globo.com, Pulgar has reached a verbal agreement to extend his Flamengo deal to the end of 2028, with finances settled and only president Bap’s sign-off pending after director José Boto presents the contract.

The club has prioritised the renewal to lift his release clause, which dropped to four million dollars this window, and to protect a player who has collected nine trophies since 2022. He also had more lucrative offers from abroad but sought improved terms to remain.

Pulgar was central to progress past Cruzeiro in the Libertadores last 16, impressing in both legs. His drive and celebrations, especially in the return game, rubbed off on team-mates and underlined the case for an extension.

His year had stuttered. In April he was sent off against Bragantino in a 3-0 away defeat and, in the same incident, injured the right acromioclavicular joint, which kept him out for a month and a half. He served a four-match STJD ban as Evertton Araújo emerged, then reclaimed a starting role once fully fit under Leonardo Jardim.

For Saturday’s Brasileirão visit to Cruzeiro he has travelled but, after four consecutive starts, could begin on the bench due to fatigue. Léo Pereira has not made the trip.

The 32-year-old has played 170 times for Flamengo, scoring six goals and providing nine assists.
