FLW's QPR fan pundit has given his verdict on whether fresh investment is needed at the club

QPR finished 15th in the table under Julien Stéphan after a disappointing end to the campaign.

The London outfit lost each of their final four fixtures, and were winless in their last six games, as they dropped into the bottom half of the standings.

The Hoops will be hoping for a positive summer ahead as they look to improve their standing in the Championship.

QPR have finished 15th two years in a row, but they did earn two more points this year under Stéphan, who was appointed as head coach last summer.

The Frenchman will be hoping to bolster his first team squad ahead of next season, with the club hoping to contend for a possible top eight finish.

Supporters will be hoping that the owners show a willingness to invest, with Rangers’ last top flight campaign coming in 2015.

QPR need investment to compete

Derby County have been linked with a change in the ownership structure following the end of the campaign.

It has been reported that Turki Alalshikh is seeking a deal with David Clowes in order to invest in the Rams, although no agreement has yet been reached between the two parties.

When asked about the possibility of investment in the London club, FLW’s QPR fan pundit Louis Moir claimed that it would have to depend on who is involved in any potential deal, as they have to be wary of entering into that kind of move with the wrong person.

However, he believes that further investment is needed in order for the Hoops to compete, as well as to improve the infrastructure such as Loftus Road, which is just as important as improving the team.

“I think more and more nowadays, you see clubs being linked with these billionaire owners and further investment is coming into clubs and I think what could be happening at Derby, say that was happening to us, I don’t think many people would complain if it did happen,” Moir told Football League World.

“Obviously, you’ve just got to be wary of who is actually buying into your club, and you don’t want anything going catastrophically wrong, as we’ve seen with Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.

“People coming into those clubs and essentially ruining them.

“Obviously, you’ve still got that issue of whether you have that you’re not automatically going to spend, spend, spend, but I think looking to the future, I think it would be a great thing.

“Because say you were going to be promoted, and you’ve got that further investment behind you, it could really do you well when you eventually get back to the Premier League.”

Moir has reiterated the importance of QPR securing investment that can help with off-field issues, and that more money coming in would only benefit the club in the long run.

“You look at Hull, for example, they’ve got an owner who came in very rich. Obviously, they didn’t spend anything, but they’ve managed to go up,” he added.

“But, look at them, I think it’d be unsurprising if they did not spend a lot now in the Prem to try and sustain themselves, and it could easily happen.

“But yeah, I think I would like to see some investment.

“There have been some rumours here and there, consortiums coming in, but I think to potentially help the club take that next step — and not just talking about signings and transfers — to help with redoing Loftus Road, for example, building upon it and other things like that.

“I just think it’d help with off-the-pitch issues, as well as potentially allowing extra to cover budgets on signings and stuff like that.

“I think it would be good. I think we’ve needed it as well for a good few years.

“You never know, it could well happen.

“There has been talk of Americans coming in, but we’ll have to see.

“Can only say, if it happened to us, I only think it would benefit us really.”

The QPR CEO, Christian Nourry, has taken on a significant role under the current ownership structure, and he oversees the day-to-day running of the club.

He will be key to maintaining a sustainable business while trying to compete with the top teams in the division.

QPR haven’t competed in the Premier League since 2015, and their best league result since returning to the Championship came when they finished ninth in 2021.

In the years since then, the Hoops have earned 11th, 20th, 18th, 15th and 15th place finishes.

QPR have pulled themselves out of a tricky position

QPR looked destined for relegation to League One not that long ago, and a big reason why they are out of trouble now is because of building a more sustainable business.

Two 15th place finishes in a row isn’t a massive sign of progress, but things have improved massively off the pitch, and it will now take time for that to result in improvements on the pitch.

Nourry has done well since becoming CEO, and Stéphan had a solid, if challenging, first season in charge as head coach.
