The promising centre-back joined the Serie A side on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid this summer and has started in the opening two league games.

“I was at the Club World Cup and the two clubs got in touch,” Ramon said.

“Cesc [Fabregas] called me, saying that he thought I was a perfect fit for them, and I was so happy to join him. It was all very quick; we were on the same wavelength. Como have an ambitious project and I already had some friends there like Nico Paz, Assane Diao and Jesus Rodriguez. It’s the right place to continue my path.”

What does he make of Serie A?

“It’s still very early to come to conclusions, but I can say that Serie A seems a bit more physical than La Liga. I like Calcio, and I already watched many Serie A games last season,” Ramon replied.

“I appreciate the competitive spirit of the league. In Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona are way superior to the others, but in Italy, the race for the title involves more teams. There are always six or seven strong sides that battle it out; it’s easy to drop points, and every game is tricky. Como have many Spanish players and a similar playing style to Spain. Technical, with build-up from the back and ball possession. These are all things I’ve been accustomed to since I was a kid, and if they work, they can bring great results. We’ll see if we can fulfil important targets.”

Como finished in the top 10 last season. What’s their target for the 2025-26 campaign?

“I don’t know. We don’t lack ambition. Como have made considerable investments in many young players like me, who can still improve. We set no limits for ourselves,” the defender said.

A product of the Real Madrid Academy, Ramon has joined another ex-Real Madrid talent, Nico Paz, who already had his debut Serie A season in 2024-25.

What makes the Real Madrid academy so special?

“They do an extraordinary job. They form people besides football players,” Ramon replied.

“I am who I am thanks to Madrid. Clearly, it’s hard to make it to the senior team, but you know you are in the best place to learn.”

Real Madrid have an option to re-sign both Ramon and Nico Paz. The latter has already grabbed one goal and one assist in Serie A this season after contributing to 15 Como goals last term (six goals and nine assists).

“He’s a great friend of mine, and I wish him the best,” Ramon said.

“I hope he stays at Como for many years to come. I am not surprised. I’ve known him for a long time. I knew how strong he was. I was only waiting for him to show it to the world, which is what he’s doing.”

Como, however, are not just about young players having also signed the Spanish national team captain Alvaro Morata this summer.

“It’s a privilege to have him in the dressing room,” Ramon concluded.

“He’s the national team captain and is an incredible person, in addition to being a great footballer. He’s an example.”
