Rangers may well be preparing for another substantial summer of transfer intrigue with reports emerging around Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane. The attacker, who has shown glimpses of his potential at Ibrox, is now being linked with a big-money move away from the club. With English and Italian sides said to be sniffing around the striker, Rangers are reportedly placing a valuation of around £20M on the player. This figure has raised eyebrows in some quarters but it may well reflect not only the player’s potential but also Rangers’ intention to build strong financial foundations.
The Ibrox side are no strangers to interest from abroad when it comes to emerging or improving talent and Igamane seems to be the next in line. Rangers to sell Hamza Igamane for £20M appears to be more than mere speculation now with Premier League and Serie A outfits circling. In the current inflated market it seems Rangers feel confident they can command a fee that would reflect the kind of business previously done with the likes of Bassey and Aribo.
Of course there have been mixed feelings about the forward since his arrival. Despite moments of promise the Moroccan has not yet truly cemented himself as a first name on the team sheet but that has not stopped suitors from expressing interest. Rangers set jaw dropping fee on Hamza Igamane to ward off Premier League opposition could well be the clearest indication that Rangers have something of a gem on their hands and they are not about to let him go on the cheap.
Managerial comments about Igamane’s injury status also raised questions earlier this season as Rangers’ Clement admits he lied about Hamza Igamane injury sparked a debate about transparency and player protection. Now though all attention appears to be back on his future, and interest from Italy has gained traction with Lazio and Rangers linked over Hamza Igamane in recent weeks.
Should Rangers land the kind of fee being discussed it would represent another major piece of business for the club and further underline their growing reputation as savvy operators in the transfer market. For now though Igamane remains a Rangers player as speculation swirls.
