Yan Diomande has already been close to Liverpool, has been targeted by Paris Saint-Germain and was even widely reported as a done deal at Real Madrid. Few names have generated as much transfer speculation as the Ivorian winger, and despite talks with the Spanish side, the reality is that there is still no final agreement.
The football director at RB Leipzig, Diomande's club, Marcel Schäfer, expressed frustration with the way the negotiations have been handled. In his view, market journalists are rushing to publish and ending up spreading false news on social media.
"It is clear that some self-styled transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was done and gave the 'here we go' [the phrase used by journalist Fabrizio Romano]. That is simply not the case. We are not at that stage yet," he said, taking a swipe at Romano, who is well known for his transfer market coverage.
On the reported delay caused by a change in representation in Diomande's career, Schäfer made it clear that this is a minor issue. The outcome of the talks does not depend on it.
"I do not think a transfer would fall through because of that, if we even get to the point of agreeing a transfer in the first place," he added, putting another end to the controversy surrounding the matter.
Diomande featured 36 times for RB Leipzig in his first season with the club, scoring 13 goals and making nine assists.
