Enzo Barrenechea’s Benfica future is unresolved, with a move in 2026/27 looking likelier after his first season, particularly its closing stretch. Valencia, where he spent a year on loan from Aston Villa, is viewed as a possible destination.

Real Betis are also in the frame. Estadio Deportivo reports the Seville club would propose a loan with an option to buy while covering the midfielder’s full wages.

Betis are set to play in next season’s Champions League, a factor that could appeal to the Argentine.

Barrenechea cost Benfica about 15 million euros, a sum reached after add-ons linked to sporting objectives. Any departure could shape the squad for 2026/27, with Manu Silva due to be assessed by Marco Silva in pre-season and increasingly likely to stay with the first-team group.

Across 2,967 minutes in 2025/26, Barrenechea scored two goals and supplied one assist for Benfica, remaining among the most used midfielders for much of the campaign. He is valued at 12 million euros.
