Executives from Real Madrid and Barcelona have been summoned to a Madrid court on 25 November for a conciliation hearing after Barcelona filed a petition against Florentino Pérez over alleged slander linked to refereeing favours.

According to AFP, the session follows a petition lodged on 12 June, prompted by Pérez’s May remarks accusing Barcelona of manoeuvres to obtain favourable treatment from match officials.

The Real Madrid president had referred to the Negreira affair, named after the former head of Spanish refereeing who is accused of receiving payments from Barcelona.

The conciliation is a preliminary step that could precede a slander complaint against the Madrid club’s president if no agreement is reached.

In June, Barcelona said its objective was for Pérez to retract and remove specific comments it considered false, slanderous and damaging to the club’s image and reputation, adding that if conciliation failed it would file the corresponding criminal complaint.
