Real Madrid did not have a single player from their last season’s squad called by the Spanish national team for this World Cup, but the Merengues still ensured that they were represented in the national team by signing Marc Cucurella and announcing his transfer before Spain played their first game in the competition.

Thus, the summer started in an explosive fashion for the Spanish fullback, as he joined one of the biggest clubs in the world. Despite his signing being announced right before the start of his World Cup campaign, this, fortunately, did not impact his performances during the international tournament, as he remained one of the best, if not the very best, fullbacks in the entire competition.

After helping Spain win their second World Cup, Cucurella is set to go on vacation for around three weeks, and after that time, he will join his new teammates at Real Madrid. However, it seems that he is already bonding well with his new teammates.

This is clear from a report from Diario AS, which highlights that the Los Blancos captain Vinicius Junior took to social media to congratulate the fullback on his latest triumph. The Brazilian forward published a picture of the Spaniard kissing the World Cup trophy, which was also published by Real Madrid, accompanied with the caption: “Congratulations and welcome Cucu!”

While some starting spots in the team are still not finalized by Jose Mourinho, one can reasonably expect Marc Cucurella and Vinicius Junior to take the winger and fullback spots on the left. Hopefully, the two players will form a good partnership, as their characteristics are highly complementary.

Cucurella’s defensive capabilities will allow Vinicius to thrive further in his attacking roles, while the fullback can also make central runs to divert the attention of defenders and giving the winger more room to maneuver near the byline.
