Barcelona will play Villarreal in Miami in December, and in the process, they will make history as it will be the first La Liga game ever played overseas.
While the decision may indeed have favourable outcomes for the popularity of the league, as advocated by the league president Javier Tebas, it has also come under massive criticism from La Liga teams given its implications on the future of the competition.
Real Madrid, needless to say, are at the forefront of that protest as they claim that the decision hands Hansi Flick’s side an edge and does away with any sense of equality in the competition.
Speaking to El Chiringuito TV in a recent interaction, the player gave his opinion on the controversial topic, albeit only after being repeatedly asked to comment on it.
He first brushed the topic off, sarcastically stating that he was just discussing the same topic, saying,
“I was just talking about it with my girlfriend.”

Upon being persuaded to give his honest opinion, he came out with a vicious accusation towards La Liga, and understandably so given how the decision alters the level playing field in the competition and hands an edge to Barcelona who will not have to play at Estadi de La Ceramica.
“Man, it is clear that they adulterate the league,” he added.
Ceballos’ blunt words will indeed be scrutinised for days to come, but one cannot declare that he is completely out of his limits to make such an accusation.
After all, Villarreal are one of La Liga’s most in-form teams and skipping the away clash against them to play at a neutral venue in Miami does indeed skew the league in Barcelona’s favour as they will have to play at one less frightening away ground.
