Real Madrid have rejected Liga F’s investment agreement with Pau Gasol’s Gasol16 Ventures, a day after its unveiling. The club said in a statement that it will not participate and that a quarter of teams in the competition oppose the plan. According to El Periódico, Real Sociedad and Athletic Club expressed their opposition at Monday’s assembly.
Madrid said the investment, approved at the Liga F assembly on 29 June, does not fit a growth model based on sustainability, transparency and full club autonomy. It argued that a decision with economic and governance effects for 25 years should account for future entrants, who would be bound without taking part or receiving funding.
The statement disclosed key terms not previously public. A private investor would receive between 35 and 49 percent of the competition’s future commercial revenues until June 2051. Clubs that sign up would share 40 million euros, in return ceding a percentage of those revenues for 25 years, with 12 million euros for Liga F and 3 million for certain players’ image rights.
The plan totals 55 million euros from Gasol16 Ventures. The league has framed it as a push for independence, an in-house commercial unit and greater professionalisation within clubs. Participation is voluntary, a strong majority backs it but not unanimously, and the total investment is not dependent on sign-ups.
Real Madrid will not join the scheme and will not receive any share of the funding. The investment remains unchanged regardless of how many clubs opt in.
