Real Madrid begin their 2026-27 Champions League campaign on Tuesday with the visit of Inter Milan in their opening league phase match. Jose Mourinho’s side will be determined to keep the three points at the Bernabeu, as their quest for La Decimosexta gets underway.
Real Madrid will be keen to bounce back from their first defeat of the season at Real Betis on Friday, and being back on home soil will certainly make things easier. Furthermore, they have an excellent recent record against Inter, whom they have beaten in their previous four meetings in the Champions League.
It was a disappointing evening in Seville on Friday, so it would be no surprise to see Mourinho make changes to his side for the visit of Inter. Two will be enforced due to suspensions for Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Guler that carried over from last season’s Champions League, although Marca believe that these will be the only alterations made.
Brahim Diaz and Yan Diomande are in line to start, with Guler and Camavinga dropping out. Given that Bernardo Silva is also suspended, it’s expected that Jude Bellingham will operate alongside Federico Valverde in a deeper role in midfield.
Barring any last-minute surprises, Thibaut Courtois will continue as Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, with Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, Dean Huijsen and Marc Cucurella ahead of him. Valverde and Bellingham will be partnered in midfield, with Diomande, Brahim and Vinicius Junior as the three behind Kylian Mbappe in attack.
It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid get on against Inter. Despite their lack of options in midfield, Mourinho certainly has more than enough at his disposal to ensure that Los Blancos start their Champions League campaign with three points.
