A recent report from Fichajes has shed light on Real Madrid’s growing interest in one of Ligue 1’s most highly rated young defenders, Jeremy Jacquet.

As the club prepares for a decisive summer, the name of the Rennes defender has emerged as a priority target in Madrid’s long-term defensive planning.

According to the report, Real Madrid are ready to make a strong financial move to get ahead of heavy competition from the Premier League.

In that regard, the Spanish giants are preparing an offer close to €35 million, a figure designed to put them in pole position ahead of clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool, all of whom have been closely monitoring Jacquet’s progress at Rennes.

Despite the financial power of English sides, the Madrid project is believed to be especially attractive to the 20-year-old defender.

In need of young blood

Real Madrid’s interest is not coincidental, as the club is bracing for a summer of significant transition at the back.

Veteran defenders Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are both approaching the end of their contracts, and all signs suggest they could leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Their potential exits would leave a leadership and quality gap in defence that Madrid are keen to address proactively.

Jacquet fits the profile Real Madrid are actively seeking. He combines an imposing physical presence with a level of composure on the ball that is rare for a defender of his age.

As such, Real Madrid scouts reportedly value his imposing figure in aerial duels and interceptions, areas in which he already outperforms most defenders of his generation across Europe’s top leagues.

These qualities have convinced decision-makers at the club that he has the potential not just to contribute immediately, but to grow into a defensive leader for the next decade.

Although Jacquet’s current contract runs until 2029, Rennes are aware that holding onto such a coveted asset will be extremely difficult.

With interest from multiple European giants intensifying, the French club may be forced to negotiate earlier than expected.
