It is clear that Real Madrid will look to transform their squad in the summer transfer window, and it appears that there will not only be big arrivals, but also significant departures.
At this point, it is indeed too early to predict which players will leave come June, but the left-back position appears to be one where there will be at least one exit, given the overbooking in the department.
In five months, Real Madrid may well open up to the idea of a player leaving in the defensive department, but as confirmed by Miguel Angel Diaz, making that decision in January was never an option, for Fran Garcia could have been on his way out had it even been a possibility.
Indeed, Real Madrid had an offer for Fran Garcia in the recent winter transfer market, and it was from Bournemouth in the Premier League.
The English giants were seriously interested in securing the left-back’s services immediately and even sent their proposal to the offices at the Valdebebas.

Real Madrid, however, would hear nothing of it and rejected it outright despite Garcia being open to the move in search of regular minutes.
Given the club’s firm stance of not making any signings in January, preserving the existing squad depth becomes critical, and it is understandable why the men in white saw it to be important to keep Garcia until the end of the season at least.
He may not be a regular starter, but he is Arbeloa’s most reliable backup option to Alvaro Carreras.
Given how they have been struggling at right-back for months now, it is only natural that they opted to keep the excess squad depth at left-back, where Ferland Mendy remains an option too.
The situation may well change in June, but Garcia is, thus, an important part of Real Madrid’s plans this season. So far, he already has seven appearances in La Liga with one goal to his name.
