Real Madrid starlet sanctioned after disagreement with Castilla manager – report | OneFootball

Jorge Cestero began the 2026/27 in the first-team dynamics at Real Madrid after having worked under Jose Mourinho during pre-season.

However, once the Portuguese had his full complement of first-team players fit and recovered, the youngster dropped back to Castilla, where he continues to play an important role.

Sanction for Cestero over argument with manager

However, according to MARCA, Cestero had a disagreement with Castilla manager Julian Lopez de Lerma last week after being left on the bench against Sant Andreu.

The situation required the club to intervene, resulting in the young midfielder being left out of the Castilla squad for the match against Alcorcon.

Lopez de Lerma did not hide the fact that the absence was a coaching decision, although he did not reveal the reason behind it.

“We’re in a development environment. We want all the players to have the chance to show themselves, compete and be part of the team,” he said.

The coach also made clear how highly he rates the midfielder, saying: “Jorge will be a very important player for us this season.”

Nonetheless, the club decided that the disagreement should have consequences, as demonstrated by Cestero’s absence from the latest match, which Castilla lost 2-1 to Alcorcon.

Unclear when Cestero will return

Although the matter is now considered resolved, it is unclear how long the punishment will last.

The Madrid derby is coming up in a few days, so the question is whether Cestero will return to Lopez de Lerma’s squad for the game.

The midfielder had already started the Sant Andreu match on the bench, although that had initially been attributed to the workload he had accumulated in the days beforehand.

After all, Cestero had played 80 minutes in the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup final at the Santiago Bernabeu, where Juvenil A beat Santiago Wanderers 3-1 in a demanding match.

Aside from this incident, the midfielder has enjoyed a solid start to the season and has already scored his first goal.

As mentioned previously, he also completed pre-season with the first team under Mourinho, where he was one of the academy players given the most opportunities, featuring in all four of the team’s friendly matches.
