Even though Franco Mastantuono has been impressing Jose Mourinho & co. so far in pre-season, there is a strong belief that the Real Madrid teenager will leave the club on loan this summer.

The 18-year-old sensation endured a difficult debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu, with pubalgia issues and lack of regular minutes hampering him.

His situation is unlikely to improve given that the competition for places has only increased following the signing of Bernardo Silva and the imminent arrival of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.

As such, the idea of a loan move away for the teenage gem makes sense, so that he can play regularly and continue his development.

Mastantuono wants River Plate return

In that context, Guillermo Rai of The Athletic reports that Mastantuono wants to return to his former club River Plate if he were to leave Real Madrid on loan this summer.

The teenage prodigy burst onto the scenes at the Argentine outfit, attracting a lot of interest from several top clubs across Europe.

Ultimately, it was Real Madrid who came out on top in the race for the 18-year-old versatile attacking midfielder.

Los Blancos shelled out a massive sum of €63 million, including taxes and commisions, to sign Mastantuono from River Plate.

Now, with limited space in the squad, the teenager wishes to return home for the upcoming season in order to further his development.

River Plate aware of the situation

As per the report, River Plate are fully aware of Mastantuono’s desire to return to the club only a year after he said goodbye.

In fact, the Argentine heavyweights are very much keen on bringing their former teenage wonderkid back, even if it is on loan for one season.

At the same time, the Real Madrid talent also has plenty of clubs interested in signing him in Europe as well.

It all now depends on what Real Madrid believe is the best course of action to help Mastantuono continue his development and fulfil his immense potential.

A meeting is scheduled between the attacker’s camp and the club this week to discuss his future and make a decision.
