According to Superdeporte, Real Madrid are weighing a major sale to fund Mourinho’s top midfield signing.
Florentino Pérez signalled during the club’s presidential elections that an overhaul is required, with Mourinho already in place. Four signings have been confirmed, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries, but more are sought in the centre of the park.
Madrid have taken in 25 million for Víctor Muñoz and are close to banking another 60 for Nico Paz. Those sums would cover the fixed costs of the deals completed so far.
Attention has now turned to a high-profile exit from the first team. The initial plan was to sell Eduardo Camavinga, but after he refused to leave, Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouameni are on the list, and the Frenchman could be the one to go. A fee around 80 million would be aimed at reinvestment in midfield.
While Madrid have long admired Rodri and even explored Vitinha, prising them from Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain is viewed as difficult, so focus has shifted to Enzo Fernández. He is central to Chelsea’s plans, yet missing next season’s Champions League could open the door, even at one of the biggest fees in football history.
Pérez knows significant outlay will be required to land Lionel Messi’s international team-mate. Around 140 million could be the final price to give Mourinho the midfielder he wants to cement the centre of the pitch.
