Real Madrid’s defensive reshuffle is creating difficult decisions, although one player who appears increasingly likely to stay is Alvaro Carreras.
The Spanish left-back has found himself at the centre of speculation following Real Madrid’s aggressive activity in the transfer market.
After securing the arrivals of Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries, the club now faces an obvious squad management issue, particularly on the left side of defence.
Despite reports that Jose Mourinho is not entirely convinced by Alvaro Carreras’ profile, The Athletic reports that all signs point towards the former Benfica defender remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu for at least another season.
The outlet mentions that Real Madrid and Mourinho began planning the club’s new project months before the Portuguese coach was officially unveiled.

During those discussions, several priorities emerged, with the club wanting competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, additional depth at left-back, a top-level centre-back and a creative midfielder.
Since then, the arrivals of Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries, among others, have strengthened both full-back positions, but they have also created a congestion problem within the squad.
On the left side alone, Real Madrid now have Alvaro Carreras, Marc Cucurella, Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy competing for minutes.
That situation has naturally triggered speculation regarding potential departures.
However, despite the growing competition, Carreras is not currently viewed as a likely exit candidate because the club invested heavily to sign him from Benfica last summer and still sees considerable long-term potential in the 23-year-old defender.
Right now, the reality is that Los Blancos simply cannot enter the season with four left-backs competing for one position.

As a result, one departure appears inevitable before the transfer window closes.
According to the outlet, the most frequently discussed candidates are Carreras and Fran Garcia, and the latter appears more vulnerable in the Real Madrid squad battle.
This is because Ferland Mendy remains unavailable and is not expected to return immediately, reducing any chances of finding a suitor for the Frenchman, leaving Carreras and Garcia under the spotlight.
The story is that Mourinho has reservations regarding Carreras’ profile, with the manager wanting the player to be sold
However, those close to the player affirm that Carreras is going nowhere, leaving Garcia to be the likely exit this summer.
