In a major development, journalist Tomas Gonzalez- Martin on El Debate reports that Real Madrid will re-sign former winger Victor Munoz from CA Osasuna amid growing interest from FC Barcelona.

In recent days, there has been a lot of speculation about Barça plotting a move for the 22-year-old winger, who left Real Madrid to join Osasuna last summer in a permanent deal.

Real Madrid will bring Munoz back

Despite Barcelona’s interest, there were always doubts about a move for Munoz, who had spent time at La Masia during his youth career.

After all, Real Madrid still own 50% of the player’s rights, and have buyback options for him for the next three summers. Indeed, Florentino Perez & co. hold the option to re-sign the forward for €8 million this summer, €9 million in 2027, or €10 million in 2028.

And, as per the report, Real Madrid will pay €8 million in July to bring Munoz back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 22-year-old left Los Blancos last summer after making four senior appearances. Since joining Osasuna, he has scored six and assisted five goals this season. He also made his Spain national team debut against Serbia on Friday and marked with a goal.

What are Real Madrid’s plans for Munoz?

The key question is where Victor Munoz will play next season once Real Madrid do end up triggering the €8 million buyback option for him.

Breaking into Real Madrid’s first team will be challenging initially. Much will depend on how the current campaign concludes and on potential departures within the squad.

Franco Mastantuono could be loaned out to gain more playing time. Rodrygo is expected to be absent for almost a year. The situation of Brahim Diaz also remains uncertain, as he continues to attract offers.

For this reason, a final decision will be made in the summer. The priority is that Munoz continues to play regularly and does not remain on the bench. That is the central issue.

If the sporting department decides he should not remain in the squad, a loan move to a club where he can fully develop is the most likely outcome.
