Real Sociedad brought their Copa del Rey home on Monday, parading through San Sebastián and hosting a civic party after Saturday’s win over Atlético.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, celebrations shifted from Seville to the Gipuzkoan capital, with about 100,000 supporters turning out to salute the squad.

The bus rolled out from Anoeta and wound through the city centre before a showpiece event at Alderdi Eder, outside City Hall.

Wesley, the most recent arrival and short of minutes, brandished a Bultzada flag. Captain Mikel Oyarzabal kept close watch on the trophy to avoid any Sergio Ramos-style mishap from 2011, while Odriozola, on crutches, raised the txuri urdin flag to the San Sebastián sky.

Thousands had been waiting with songs and chants. At 18:32, mascot Txurdin took centre stage, drawing roars before the players’ entrance.

When the squad finally arrived, Oyarzabal addressed the crowd to deafening acclaim. Aritz Elustondo led the dressing-room chants, then acted as master of ceremonies to introduce team-mates one by one.

The finale belonged to head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, acclaimed by the blue-and-white sea. The New Jersey native joked that, at over two metres tall, he did not think anyone had lifted the cup higher, which sent the plaza into raptures.
