Rumors of a possible transfer of Michael Olise to Real Madrid continue to circulate. Lothar Matthäus understands why the club is so fascinated by him.
Michael Olise is currently one of the most talked-about players at FC Bayern. This was triggered by a report in the French newspaper L’Équipe, according to which the forward is said to have expressed his desire on several occasions during the World Cup to play for Real Madrid one day.
Lothar Matthäus, however, takes a much more cautious view of the speculation. The all-time leading German international sees no signs at this time that a transfer is imminent. Instead, he points to Bayern Munich’s stance, which he is familiar with from sources close to the club.
On the BILD show “Lothar legt los,” Matthäus explained: “I haven’t heard anything from Spain or France. But I know what FC Bayern thinks about Olise.”
The 65-year-old then made it clear what the plans are at Säbener Straße: “Bayern Munich has no intention whatsoever of selling Olise. Rather, they’re considering extending his contract once again and increasing his salary.”
These statements align with the latest reports surrounding the French national team player. Olise’s contract with FC Bayern runs through 2029 and contains no buyout clause. Internally, the 24-year-old is considered one of the team’s most important players and is expected to become the face of Munich’s offense in the long term.
Matthäus can nevertheless understand the dream of playing for Real Madrid. In doing so, he recalls his own career and a transfer to the “Royals” that almost came to fruition.

“Personally, I can understand wanting to play for Real Madrid,” explained the former World Player of the Year. In principle, he added, interest from a club like Real Madrid is not a negative thing: “Of course, you have to understand it when someone receives an offer from Real Madrid or is on the club’s radar. It’s an honor when such a big club shows interest.”
For now, however, Matthäus sees the attacking star’s future clearly in Munich. In his assessment, FC Bayern is currently not considering letting Olise go—instead, club officials are apparently even working on a long-term contract extension.
