Record broken! Olise makes World Cup history | OneFootball

It’s been clear since the end of the semifinal matches: This time around, no FC Bayern player will have the chance to become a world champion. However, Michael Olise still made history in the third-place match. 

The Bayern star, who failed to score in this tournament despite numerous attempts, once again set up goals—two of them, in fact. In France’s wild 4–6 loss to England, he was one of the most standout players.

Even though not everything went Olise’s way, he played an excellent tournament and once again cemented his status as one of the best players in the world.

Olise Breaks Assist Record

The two assists in the third-place match were Olise’s sixth and seventh of the tournament. This makes him the sole record-holder in this category.

Pelé previously held the record. The Brazilian legend had recorded six assists in a single tournament. Olise has now broken that mark.

Although the Bayern star also benefited from the fact that the expansion of the tournament to 48 teams allowed for one additional match, this milestone is nonetheless absolutely historic and demonstrates just how important Olise is to the French team’s offense.

For now, he’s heading off on vacation to rest and prepare for the new season. The rumors surrounding a move to Real Madrid certainly won’t disappear overnight.

A clarifying meeting between Olise and FC Bayern is scheduled for his return to Munich. FCB is determined to extend his contract, though the player is said to have spoken several times within the French national team’s inner circle about a move to Real Madrid.

Bayern officials, however, continue to insist that the French forward is not for sale this summer.
