According to L'Équipe, the elite referees’ union SAFE has condemned what it sees as a lenient LFP punishment for LOSC president Olivier Létang, after his angry outburst following the 2-2 draw with PSG on 28 August.

In a statement titled "Vraiment pas cher payé !", SAFE said the alarm needed to be sounded quickly. It added that while it does not usually comment on disciplinary decisions, it was questioning the real impact of the sanction.

The union argued that a €20,000 fine now effectively allows an executive to cast doubt on an official’s impartiality, or even seek to recuse them, which it described as a profound lack of respect for female and male referees.

The punishment was a fine, set against the disciplinary commission’s new policy to prioritise heavy financial penalties for club executives rather than lengthy suspensions that have not always had much effect.
