Régis Le Bris has confirmed Sunderland have opened talks over Bertrand Traoré’s future as the club published new accounts. Wilson Isidor will represent Haiti. A Bola reports disciplinary issues for Luís Hemir at Moreirense.
Traoré joined from Ajax last summer on a one-year deal, with an option for another season. He sustained a knee injury at the Africa Cup of Nations, then a recurrence at Elland Road. He is likely out for another month, though Sunderland hope he can feature late on.
Le Bris said sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has spoken with Traoré and that it is probably too early to decide, so the club will wait.
The 2024-25 accounts, covering the promotion campaign, show an operating loss of £1.1m and turnover of £40.3m. Since the period end, the club has committed £47,346,348 in transfer fees. Chief financial officer Mike Papadimitriou said revenues were strong, backed by the stadium, supporters and civic ties.
Hemir scored recently against Nacional but was an unused substitute in defeat to FC Porto and did not warm up. Head coach Vasco Botelho said the group comes first and that difficult decisions can aid his development.
Sunderland fans travelling to Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby will be escorted by police from Newcastle Central Station to St James’ Park, with the main escort at 10.15am and advice to arrive early for the 12pm kick-off.
