talkSPORT claimed he could be sacked if he fails to secure continental qualification, a line that club sources swiftly dismissed.

Le Bris struck a relaxed tone, saying his position is always open to discussion but that he feels strongly aligned with the club.

His Premier League win rate stands at 40.9%, 14th among current managers, level with Burnley's Scott Parker and ahead of Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Everton's David Moyes.

Sunderland have not folded when they have not won, recording 12 victories, 10 draws and 11 defeats in the league.

The top six may yet secure Champions League football, so a continental push remains possible.
