Régis Le Bris has challenged Sunderland's youngsters to channel the frustration of recent missed chances into improvement after a four-match winless Premier League run. According to Sunderland Echo, he underlined their inexperience and the need for patience.
The sequence includes a 5-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, though there have been strong displays and key moments that slipped away. At Aston Villa, Habib Diarra was denied by Emiliano Martinez when clean through, a chance to go 4-3 up.
In the 0-0 draw with Manchester United, Sene Lammens kept out efforts from Noah Sadiki and Brian Brobbey. Le Bris said progress comes through experience and maturity, using tough moments to drive harder work in training and sharper decisions in front of goal.
He noted that Diarra, 22, and Sadiki, 21, are in their first Premier League season and must learn from setbacks that add motivation to develop. He also reiterated that the summer will be about evolution not revolution, with fewer signings aimed at raising the XI and deepening the squad.
A strong display against a United side sitting third took Sunderland to 48 points, backing the view that, while additions are needed, the core is only just starting at this level. Le Bris sees a platform, stressing stability and that three or four well-judged additions could help.
Sadiki reflected that he should have done better with an early chance and felt gutted not to help the team. He said the performance showed progress and a response for the fans, albeit without the reward of three points.
