Régis Le Bris believes Sunderland can keep their core this summer, even if strong form draws elite Premier League and European interest.
Brian Brobbey was the latest name linked, with The Independent reporting Bayern Munich are tracking his progress.
Sunderland accept occasional sales may be needed for finances and to attract rising talent. Even so, Le Bris feels stability into next season is achievable.
He cautioned the market is unpredictable and any interest would reflect this season’s collective work. He said they do not want an overhaul, that Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is ambitious and does not want to sell half the squad.
European qualification could bring both opportunity and a headache, with extra fixtures demanding a deeper group. UEFA rules would also cap squad costs at 70% of revenues.
Le Bris said they are not actively planning for that yet, but improved structures mean they can act decisively whatever the campaign delivers. Director of football Florent Ghisolfi has been reshaping scouting and recruitment.
He noted recruitment is now organised after last summer’s late start, which still ended with the squad ready for the Premier League. The plan is not to rush, to wait until the final game, then act accordingly. Ghisolfi has said they will try to improve the team and may sell at times without pressure.
