Sunderland face Leeds United in New Jersey at 12.30am BST on Friday, the second match of their US tour as Régis Le Bris steps up preparations.

According to Sunderland Echo, Melker Ellborg could start in goal, with Roefs back from World Cup duty but likely to be phased in, giving Ellborg another chance to impress.

At right-back, Nordi Mukiele resumed the role against Liverpool and has been central to recent success, and it would be a major surprise if he did not line up there on opening day and beyond.

Centre-back Dan Ballard made an excellent return from ankle surgery against Liverpool and will look to build on that strong start to his pre-season here.

Luke O’Nien also has a chance to stake a claim for regular minutes this season while on tour, with Omar Alderete not due back on Wearside until next month after the World Cup. O’Nien has made a very solid start so far.
