Tijjani Reijnders has improved massively since his move to Italy, and AC Milan are now reaping the rewards from this. However, he still believes he has room to improve.
In the past 18 months, the midfielder has become a player that Milan will have dreamt of, even if they felt confident in his ability to grow after joining the club. Last season, we saw a glimpse of his talent, though he was potentially overused, regularly playing in positions that were not natural.
This season though, with a more defined role, Reijnders has grown substantially in all elements of his game. However, his goalscoring threat has come on leaps and bounds, and this has made him a target for the best sides in Europe.
For the Dutchman, his eyes are still firmly on the Diavolo, and a contract extension is expected.
Sat alongside the head coach, Reijnders spoke to the media in the Netherlands before the game, and Milan News have relayed his comments.
Gimenez returns to Holland, how are you helping him?
“Well, we all want to do our best to make him feel comfortable. Even the new arrivals, we are helping each other out with Gimenez too. We are ready.”
On your rise since moving to Milan…
“I want to continue to do well, as does the whole team. I feel the confidence of the coach and the fans, but I’m not thinking about it now. I’m only focused on tomorrow night’s match.”
Would you be willing to change roles on the pitch?
“Of course, the balance in our team is new but important, then for me it is fundamental to play every match with the right attitude. The good of the team is more important, I think about playing well and being in shape.”
The relationship with his father…
“My dad always taught me to be humble, both to me and to my brother. As a footballer and as a man, it is important for me to always be myself. I have a great relationship with my dad, as well as with my entire family.”
