Former Inter Milan wingback Joao Cancelo could reportedly return to European football in the January transfer window.

According to the Italian media via FCInter1908, the Portuguese star is desperate to leave Al-Hilal next month.

Despite boasting a lucrative contract in Riyadh, Joao Cancelo has grown frustrated with his life in the Middle East.

Therefore, he has already instructed his agent, Jorge Mendes, to explore potential opportunities for a return to Europe.

Cancelo spent the 2017/18 season on loan at San Siro before joining Juventus the following summer.

However, he rose to prominence at Manchester City, where he played until 2024, when he decided to leave for Saudi Arabia.

With Portugal set to fight for FIFA World Cup glory next summer, Cancelo is hellbent on getting Roberto Martinez’s call-up.

Furthermore, he is eager to regain competitive form, prompting him to pursue an early return to Europe.

Mendes has reportedly contacted several Serie A clubs to offer his client’s services.

Yet, Cancelo would likely have to accept a substantial pay cut to facilitate his return to Italian football.
