There is always a place for motivated youngsters to shine at FC Barcelona no matter the circumstances. For the Catalan club, it is a blessing that continues to be cherished even today. Under Hansi Flick, moreover, many Barcelona youngsters continue to thrive.
In a way, this impressive current squad would not have become a reality had it not been for La Masia or the club’s other talented youngsters. By combining their talents with the experience of veterans in the team, Flick managed to create a unity that is hard to beat.
As new faces continue to emerge every season, this summer is proving to be no different. While many youth players have stood out during preseason so far, it is perhaps Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez who continues to take up most of the headlines when it comes to impressive Barcelona youth talents.
Following his amazing display against Vissel Kobe recently, a game in which he scored a brilliant goal as well, ‘Dro’ has become a name that many Barcelona fans are now talking about. However, for many, he is still a very new name and there is very little known about him when it comes to the masses.

Fortunately, Mundo Deportivo has decided to highlight the qualities that make this particular 17-year-old Barcelona gem such a special talent. Despite playing around only ten minutes in the recent game against Vissel Kobe, his performance itself showed signs of what he has to offer to this team and why Hansi Flick seems to have faith in his quality.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, he is also capable of playing as a left-winger if needed. In that position, he prefers to drift in centrally and create opportunities for his teammates. By opening up space with his movement and close control, he is a great asset for his teammates and allows them to thrive as well.
His most standout qualities, as per MD, are his close control on the ball and his efficient dribbling that was polished thanks to his background in futsal. Moreover, with an ability to operate effectively in tight spaces, ‘Dro’ is a player who does not mind being tightly marked by his opponents either.
Furthermore, the player is reportedly known for the elegance in his game. With his well-timed first touches and his long strides to carry the ball, Pedro Fernandez is a talent who does not shy away from the ball and the responsibility it carries at all.
Both intelligent and elegant, he is a unique kind of talent who fits perfectly in the Barcelona system. Moreover, as he showcased well enough in the recent game against Vissel Kobe, he has a strong shot in him as well if the opportunity comes his way. Interestingly, the report also claims that the player is particularly good with set-pieces as well, having scored some great goals for Juvenil A through free kicks last season.
Considering all of that information, it does not seem surprising that this player managed to thoroughly impress Hansi Flick during preseason training. Eventually, those impressive early displays allowed him to be included in the final squad list for the preseason tour to Asia, and he is already showing why he deserved that opportunity.
Recently, another report suggested that the player’s contract is now being assessed as well. Reportedly, Barcelona want to renew his current deal and ensure his long-term continuity in order to fend off interested clubs as early as possible to avoid future complications.
