Alberto Aquilani came close to securing promotion from Serie B with Catanzaro, but is now reportedly being targeted as the new coach of Torino.
According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, Torino have set their sights firmly on Aquilani to be their next tactician, even though it would be his first top flight experience.
The former Roma, Liverpool, Juventus, Milan, Fiorentina and Sporting CP player amongst others hung up his boots in 2019 and went into management.

After coming up through the youth levels at Fiorentina, he was on the Pisa bench for 2023-24 in Serie B.
This term there was a successful run with small club Catanzaro, taking them all the way to the promotion play-offs final, pipped narrowly at the post by Monza.
His contract with Catanzaro runs to June 2027, but these performances alerted bigger clubs in the top flight, so he is going to consider his next step.
Torino have put him at the top of their list and are ready to meet with him over the next few days.
The ex-midfielder will celebrate his 42nd birthday in July, so is still early into his management career.
