West Ham United have made a decisive move in the market, opening discussions with Chelsea over a potential permanent deal for Axel Disasi. As first revealed by Sports Boom, the Hammers are exploring a summer transfer for the French defender, contingent on Premier League survival.
The timing feels significant. Disasi’s impact since arriving on loan has coincided with a tangible improvement in West Ham’s defensive structure. With three clean sheets in seven league appearances, including resilient draws against Manchester United and Manchester City, the numbers support what many supporters have observed on the pitch.
Sports Boom reports that “Chelsea would be open to offers for the defender this summer as they look to trim the fat off their sizeable squad.” That stance offers encouragement to West Ham, though competition could yet complicate matters.
When Disasi joined on deadline day for a £1.7 million loan fee, West Ham were six points adrift of safety. Fast forward a matter of weeks, and they now sit just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur in 17th. It is a shift that underlines the importance of defensive resilience in a relegation battle.
Nuno Espirito Santo has clearly identified Disasi as a cornerstone of that stability. According to Sports Boom, “that has led to Nuno prompting the Hammers’ board to green light a summer move for the defender.” It is a calculated gamble, tying recruitment plans directly to survival ambitions.

The manager remains confident despite setbacks, including the recent 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa. There is a growing belief within the club that they can secure their Premier League status, and with it, unlock the possibility of securing Disasi on a long term deal.
West Ham may not have a clear run at the defender. Crystal Palace were credited with interest in January and could revisit their pursuit. That adds urgency to West Ham’s negotiations, particularly given Disasi’s recent form and renewed confidence.
His own words reflect a player settled in his surroundings. “I’m lucky because I feel part of something and loved,” Disasi said after his move across London. That sense of belonging often proves decisive in transfer decisions, especially for players who have struggled for consistency elsewhere.
At Chelsea, Disasi’s situation has been less stable. After a £38.5 million move from Monaco in 2023 and 31 league appearances in his debut season, he has since found himself on the fringes. A crowded squad and limited opportunities have pushed him towards a fresh start.
There is a broader strategic angle here. West Ham are not simply reacting to short term needs, they are identifying players capable of anchoring their defence for seasons to come. Disasi, at 28, offers experience, physical presence, and Premier League familiarity.
As one source close to the situation suggested, “this is about more than survival, it is about building a defensive identity.” That sentiment captures the wider ambition at the club.
If West Ham do secure safety, the expectation is that talks will accelerate quickly. The groundwork is already being laid, and Chelsea’s openness to a deal provides a clear pathway.
For now, everything hinges on results on the pitch.
From a West Ham supporter’s perspective, this feels like the kind of proactive thinking that has been missing in recent windows. Axel Disasi has brought calmness and authority to a defence that has too often looked vulnerable this season.
There is something reassuring about a player who arrives mid season and immediately looks comfortable. The clean sheets are important, but it is his positioning and decision making that stand out. He looks like someone who understands the demands of a relegation fight.
If survival is achieved, securing Disasi should be a priority. The idea that Chelsea are willing to sell strengthens the case, and the player’s own admission that he feels “part of something and loved” suggests he would be open to staying.
There is also a sense that this could be a turning point in recruitment strategy. Too often West Ham have chased short term fixes. This feels more considered, more aligned with building a stable core.
Of course, there is risk. Competition from clubs like Crystal Palace could drive up the price, and survival is far from guaranteed. But if the club can get this deal done, it would send a strong message.
Supporters want to see progress, not just survival. Disasi could be a step in that direction.
