But while all the focus will be on the players who are now going to form an exciting group that can compete for the Premier League title and the Champions League now, there were also signings made with one eye for the future.

This saw Armin Pecsi, Giovanni Leoni and Will Wright being brought in. Players who are not necessarily expected to play a big role for Liverpool's first team but who are very highly regarded and are seen as stars who can become future stars in the club's senior set-up in years to come.

This is the essential path Hughes and Edwards want to create. They don't always want to rely on big marquee signings but would rather create a pathway from an early age for youngsters to reach the first team.

An important avenue to explore in this area is the South American market. Liverpool don't necessarily buy players directly from the region.

In fact, aside from Brazil, Liverpool have never really shopped on the continent and even from Brazil purchases have been very rare. Lucas Leiva perhaps being the most high-profile transfer.

But that is going to change soon. Liverpool are looking to expand their horizons and make a landmark transfer from South America, which is seen as a very intriguing market considering the FA's post-Brexit point-based system which grants work-permits more favourably to young players who play regular senior football in one of South America's top leagues.

In January Anfield Watch reported exclusively that Deinner Ordonez was one of the talents Liverpool scouts had closely admired and watched.

Now, this has been confirmed by another source.

Who is Deinner Ordonez?

Ordonez is regarded as one of South America's most extraordinary talents at the moment. He was actually the youngest player at the U20 Sudamericana earlier this year, starting games for Ecuador at just 15-years-old.

Born in 2009, he's another product of the Independiente del Valle academy which has produced players like Moises Caicedo, Piero Hincapie and Kendry Paez.

Liverpool's scouts have a good relationship with the academy and are now believed to be firmly interested in the young centre-back.
