Benfica midfielder Richard Ríos has posted a message of faith as he advances his recovery from a traumatic left shoulder dislocation.
According to Glorioso 1904, he is expected to return to contention for the play-off to reach the last 16 against Real Madrid. The priority is to have him available for the ties on 17 and 25 February, and it is likely he will sit out Alverca on Sunday and the league trip to Santa Clara.
In his Instagram post, Ríos said he cannot see tomorrow but trusts that his path is already written by God, adding that he is taking it one day at a time.
He suffered the injury on 14 January during the 1-0 defeat to Porto in the Taça de Portugal. Since then he has been working at Benfica Campus and at home after deciding against surgery.
Another South American midfielder, Enzo Barrenechea, is nearing the end of his recovery from a right shoulder dislocation and is expected to return to José Mourinho’s options soon.
This season Ríos has 32 appearances for Benfica, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,622 minutes he has scored three goals and provided two assists.
