River will play a friendly against Atlético Escobar, a Federal A side, on Saturday morning at River Camp in Ezeiza to keep sharp during the break. Ponzio will aim to keep his players in rhythm before the unchanged 10 October meeting with Estudiantes de Río Cuarto.

The weekend game with Sarmiento de Junín was postponed. According to SuperDepor.com, River sought the change due to the number of potential national-team call-ups in the FIFA window.

River’s most recent competitive outing was the 3-2 home defeat to Huracán at the Monumental on 19 September.

Lionel Scaloni initially called Santiago Beltrán, Tobías Andrada and Thiago Almada to Argentina. Andrada and Almada were later withdrawn with fitness problems and today rejoined on-field work.

That would have left Beltrán as the only call-up, though the national team could have released him, as it did with Thiago Palacios of Estudiantes and Leonel Flores of Boca.

The Sarmiento fixture has been moved to Wednesday 14 October at 19:00.
