Former Real Madrid defender Marcelo could become an ambassador for Ligue 2 club FC Nantes as part of a takeover led by Paulo Tavares, as per a report from L’Équipe.

Waldemar Kita has confirmed that three bids have been tabled for Les Canaris. Kita took over back in 2007 but his management of the club, particularly the high managerial turnover, has been criticised. Last season, Nantes burned through three managers as they suffered relegation to Ligue 2.

A project to take over the club, led by former agent Tavares, is advancing. L’Équipe have reported that their attempts to purchase the Loire-based club are “very advanced”. Should it reach completion, the publication understands that former Real Madrid left-back Marcelo, now 38, could join as an ambassador. In any case, that is what has been proposed in a document seen by L’Équipe.

The Brazilian ended his playing career in 2025, following two seasons with Fluminense.
