Rob Edwards offered a firm verdict on Mateus Mane’s future after Wolves’ 1-1 draw with Fulham. According to Molineux.news, the head coach said the youngster would 100% be with the club next season.
Mane opened the scoring in Wolves’ final home game of the Premier League season, then conceded a penalty, and the hosts were pegged back by an Antonee Robinson penalty. Both sides pushed for a winner after the break but the points were shared.
“We’re really pleased with him. There’s going to be ups and downs and lots for him to learn. But he’s got a great attitude.”
“I thought overall today his performance was really good. He worked tirelessly. He was really committed.”
“The exciting thing is he’s not the finished article. He’s not going to be at his age. There’s a lot there to work with still.”
Asked where that leaves Mane next season, Edwards replied, “With us”.
Mane’s emergence has brightened a dismal campaign that ended in relegation to the Championship, and his form had dipped before today’s reminder of his threat. He has attracted interest from bigger clubs, while Don Goodman has previously urged him to stay.
Other sides could still test Wolves’ resolve, but Edwards’ stance is encouraging. The hope around Molineux is that the youngster helps drive a promotion push next term.
