Rob Edwards hailed Wolves' history-maker Jerome Abbey and said the club's academy breakthroughs could inspire others. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the head coach was encouraged by how the teenager seized his chance.
At 16 years, eight months and eight days, the midfielder became Wolves' youngest Premier League player and the club's second youngest in its history when he came off the bench to make his debut at Burnley.
Edwards felt Abbey did well on introduction, noting that with two midfielders going off it presented an opening he took well. He also highlighted the academy staff's hard work.
With Mateus Mane now a first-team regular and Tom Edozie involved this season, Edwards hopes their progress, and Abbey's taste of action, can motivate others in the academy. He stressed opportunities will come if staff feel they are ready.
He added that players still have to be good enough, and that Abbey merited his chance but knows there is plenty of work ahead.
Senior striker Adam Armstrong welcomed the breakthrough for both Mane and Abbey. He described making a debut young as a special feeling and said the pair are talented and can keep improving.
