Newly published images reveal Roker Park as it was dismantled in 1997, capturing the ground’s last days 29 years ago.
According to Sunderland Echo, the 11 previously unseen photographs were taken by former stadium announcer John Foster as demolition teams moved in.
His pictures chart the stands being stripped, diggers at work and the stadium’s shell before it was finally bulldozed.
Roker Park’s demolition coincided with SAFC’s move to their new home, the Stadium of Light, in 1997.
The old ground carries deep affection, from epic Cup runs to league titles. It even hosted David Bowie and suffered bomb damage in World War II.
Readers are invited to share their own Roker Park memories after viewing the gallery provided by John Foster.
