Inter Milan are planning a significant midfield overhaul this summer, with Manu Kone and Aleksandar Stankovic identified as the two most coveted targets as the club prepares for the likely departures of Frattesi, Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan.
According to L’Interista, Koné and Stankovic are the profiles most appreciated within the Inter hierarchy.
Indeed, the duo are considered ideal to launch the next phase of the club’s evolution under Cristian Chivu.
Their combined arrival would give Chivu the tools to implement his preferred 3-4-2-1 system.
Therefore reducing the dependence on a traditional regista and instead building around box-to-box energy, pressing intensity and greater dynamism in the engine room.
The vision Chivu has outlined: vertical football, high pressing, more physicality in midfield, has been discussed in theory for some time.
This summer is where it must become reality.
Koné brings the physical presence and intensity Inter need.
Stankovic, set to return from Club Brugge via the agreed buy-back clause, offers technical quality.
He also brings an understanding of Chivu’s methods from their time together in the youth setup.
A third addition is also under consideration.
Parma midfielder Mandela Keita, known for his ability to disrupt opposition build-up.
And, additionally, his ball winning skills could complete a triple midfield reinvention.
Indeed providing the defensive solidity that allows Koné and Stankovic to operate more freely ahead of him.
Three departures could fund three arrivals, the blueprint is clear.
