Roma could face UEFA fine for not selling players | OneFootball

Now that August is here, Roma has yet to complete any sales that would allow them to post a capital gain that would clear their books in UEFA’s eyes.

After the extension granted to the Financial Fair Play deadline, the Giallorossi club has decided not to sacrifice one of their key players, accepting the risk of a new financial penalty.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this may have been a deliberate decision by the Friedkin family, also made at Gasperini’s request.

The goal would be to maintain the squad’s competitiveness as high as possible, avoiding a major transfer that could have weakened the team on the eve of the new season.

Roma will now have to wait until November, when a final decision is expected from Nyon.

At Trigoria, they expect a fine of between €10 and €12 million, along with a reduction in the European squad for the 2027-28 season.

The number of players eligible for UEFA competitions could thus be reduced from 25 to 22.
