Roma is increasingly in Gian Piero Gasperini’s image.
They’ve started the season on a high note, with four wins and a draw in their first five league games.
After a year of running in at a high level, the difference from last season is clear.
The Grugliasco-born coach has refined certain mechanisms that are working wonderfully, allowing the Roman side to score 14 goals, bettered only by Inter.
Analyzing their start to last season (12), Roma have earned one more point (13), but their opponents’ difficulty coefficient has been higher: Fiorentina, Lecce, Atalanta, Torino, and Inter. A year ago, however, the Giallorossi faced Bologna, Pisa, Torino, Lazio, and Verona.
The real difference between the start of last season and this season is the number of goals scored: 5 versus 14, an even 9 more this season. Malen’s performance is the key factor, with 6 goals already scored.
Focusing solely on the Dutch striker would be reductive, as the entire team creates more and is more dangerous.
As reported by Corriere della Sera, the Giallorossi’s opponents’ shots on goal have increased by over 50% compared to the same period a year ago, from 63 to 99. The first Giallorossi shot in Como next Sunday will already be the 100th of the season.
