Romeu Tuma Júnior has rejected the legal validity of the meeting that temporarily removed him as president of Corinthians’ Conselho Deliberativo. In an official note on Tuesday, he said he remains in office unless a court order or a fully statutory internal process dictates otherwise.
He alleges serious flaws in both the convocation and the conduct, breaching the club’s Statute. He cites a formal halt to proceedings, verbal aggression towards board members, and a resumption led by someone without legal authority.
On that basis, he argues that any decisions taken carry no legal effect, including attempts to curtail his mandate. He reiterated a commitment to the Statute, legal certainty and institutional stability.
The vote was called by president Osmar Stabile, who accused Tuma of intimidation and interference in the board’s work. At Parque São Jorge on Monday, the council approved his provisional removal by 115 votes to 15.
The session was fractious. First secretary Maria Angela Ocampos closed it amid disputes, yet councillors continued under new direction with a roll-call, prompting questions about legality and reports that accusations were not read and no defence was heard.
Allegations cited included threats, harassment and interference, which Tuma denies while signalling an intention to challenge the move in court. Vice-president Leonardo Pantaleão assumed interim charge, and he has also questioned the fairness of the vote. The Ministério Público de São Paulo has requested the meeting minutes linked to the provisional removal.
