Ruben Kluivert has been diagnosed with a pneumothorax after going off at half-time in Lyon’s 4-0 defeat by Lens on Sunday, the final day of Ligue 1.

The Dutch defender started but was replaced by Roman Iaremtchouk at the break. The club said in a statement that he was hit in the chest during the game and taken to hospital for tests, which confirmed the condition.

He left hospital this morning and will now follow an adapted recovery protocol.

Earlier today he posted on social media to reassure supporters, saying he already felt better after a night in hospital.

He described the pneumothorax as mild.
