According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi has reportedly been sacked after their 5-1 World Cup opening defeat by Sweden.

Lamouchi is well known to Leeds United supporters from his Nottingham Forest spell. The 8 February 2020 City Ground loss prompted Marcelo Bielsa to speak of a loss of faith and left Luke Ayling visibly shaken in a post-match interview.

That setback meant Leeds had won only once in six. They drew 1-1 at Brentford a few days later, then surged, taking the next five and 12 of their final 14 to be crowned champions.

Forest won only three of their last 15 and finished seventh, missing the play-offs on goal difference. Lamouchi was dismissed in October 2020.

Since then he has led Al-Duhail in Qatar, spent half a season at Cardiff City, and was later sacked by Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah in Saudi Arabia. He took the Tunisia job in January.

The opening loss appears to have cost the 54-year-old his job, with reports on Monday that he was to be removed mid-tournament. Tunisia now face an uphill task in Group F against Japan and the Netherlands.
