Postecoglou Under Pressure

Ange Postecoglou has admitted he heard the chants from Nottingham Forest supporters calling for his dismissal during their 3-2 Europa League defeat to Midtjylland. The cries of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” echoed around the City Ground as Forest’s winless run extended to six games under their new manager.

The former Tottenham head coach replaced Nuno Espirito Santo less than a month ago, but the decision to change direction so abruptly is already under fierce scrutiny. A heavy 3-0 loss to Arsenal in his first match created an ominous tone, one compounded by further setbacks. Forest squandered two-goal leads against Swansea City in the League Cup and Real Betis in Europe, while Premier League points have slipped away with alarming frequency.

Forest Turmoil

Nuno’s dismissal was contentious. The Portuguese coach had lifted Forest from relegation candidates to European qualification for the first time in nearly three decades, only to fall victim to disputes with owner Evangelos Marinakis. Many supporters still valued his achievement, and Postecoglou’s struggles have intensified the sense of regret.

Replacing a figure who offered stability with a manager regarded as unpredictable was always a gamble. While Postecoglou delivered Europa League success to Tottenham last season, he also oversaw their lowest Premier League finish, ending 17th. The sense of uncertainty he carries has now transferred to Forest.

Manager’s Response

Reacting to the chants, Postecoglou remained calm. “Yeah, I heard them. They are fans, they want to see their team win, they are entitled to their opinion. [When asked if the chants surprised him] Nothing surprises me in football anymore.”

The Australian has urged his players to “keep their heads up”, though the fixture list offers little respite. A daunting trip to Newcastle is followed by clashes against Chelsea, Porto and in-form Bournemouth after the international break.

Growing Concerns

For Forest, the immediate worry is whether this turbulence will derail their season entirely. The supporters’ discontent is already visible, the squad appears uncertain, and the ownership’s decision-making remains under the microscope. Postecoglou’s calm words may ease the heat temporarily, but without results, the chants will only grow louder.
