Valencia’s dressing room remains tight after a difficult spell, and the playful ‘Sadiq Pelé’ line is the latest sign of healthy competition. According to Superdeporte, the squad led by Carlos Corberán and captain José Luis Gayà has come through its toughest moment and heads into the second half of the season feeling reinforced.
In the closing stages against Deportivo Alavés, Valencia also glimpsed a potential route forward in attack, with Umar Sadiq and Hugo Duro sharing the pitch. With different profiles, the pair appeared capable of complementing one another and adding fresh options.
The friendly duel between Duro and Sadiq has become the latest example of unity. Duro, a substitute in that match, laughed about his bench role and Sadiq’s form, joking that he looks like Pelé.
He said he is calm, works every day on what the manager asks, and that Sadiq is giving the team plenty with and without the ball. Duro added he must wait for his moment while Sadiq keeps earning his.
Asked how he took it as he left Paterna, Sadiq kept the gag going with his usual good humour, replying, “Sadiq Pelé!”
